Q & A with Troy Jackson – Regional Sales Manager (lookers right)

Q: What is the most valuable lesson you have learned by being onsite at a customer facility?
A: Nothing can replace the simple value of in-person connection. You can learn a lot over the phone, but nothing replaces seeing the equipment in operation, talking with people, and understanding our customers processes. Many times, the issues described by a customer isn’t what we end up concluding when we are onsite.
Q: What is most overlooked when it comes to Oliver equipment?
A: Deck overcover maintenance, especially worn out decks. It’s easy to overlook because the machine continues to run, but worn overcover can reduce separation performance and product quality long before they visibly fail. Regular upkeep can make a significant difference.
Q: Whats one tip every customer should know?
A: Less air is often your friend. Whether you’re operating a destoner or a gravity. Too much air is one of the common mistakes we see in separation. Start small with air adjustments and work your way up.
Q: What was your most rewarding customer visit and why?
A: The most rewarding visits are operator training sessions. Watching someone gain confidence in the equipment and then immediately apply what they’ve learned to improve their product is incredibly satisfying. Those “aha” moments, when everything clicks.
Q: What is the most repeated problem you see over and over again that could have been prevented?
A: Greasing bearings. We see both ends of the spectrum. Bearings that are over-greased and bearings that have rarely, if ever, been greased. Following the recommended greasing interval will help prevent this. Grease every 1,000-1,500 hrs of run time.
